Great Ways to Use Grasses
Mass Plantings
Ornamental grasses are excellent for covering large areas quickly. Their fast growth allows them to fill in, suppress weeds, and create attractive, low-maintenance plantings that often need very little attention after establishment.
Accent Plants
You don’t need dozens of grasses to make an impact. Repeating individual plants or small groups throughout a landscape adds rhythm, movement, and texture while tying the entire design together.
Containers
Many grasses make spectacular container plants. A single grass filling a large pot creates an impressive display that’s easy to care for and often very drought tolerant. Just remember that some grasses are deciduous and die back in winter, while evergreen varieties provide year-round interest.
Formal Plantings
Planting grasses in straight rows or repeating evenly spaced clumps creates an interesting balance between formal structure and the soft, airy texture that grasses naturally provide.

Muhly Grass
One of our most popular, and for good reason! Soft evergreen foliage is topped with breathtaking clouds of pink blooms in late summer and fall. Excellent for mass plantings and incredibly easy to grow.
Katie Belles Lomandra
A bold evergreen grass reaching 4 feet or more. Its glossy dark green foliage forms a tidy clump and tolerates everything from full sun to shade and dry to wet soils, making it one of the easiest grasses to fit into almost any landscape.
Adagio Miscanthus
Our favorite miscanthus for North Florida’s hot, humid climate. This compact variety features fine-textured foliage and elegant tan flower plumes that provide classic fall and winter interest.
Fakahatchee Grass
One of Florida’s finest native ornamental grasses. It thrives in conditions ranging from dry sand to very wet soils and forms impressive clumps that can reach 5 to 6 feet tall. It also provides valuable habitat and food for native wildlife.
First Knight Red Fountain Grass
A dramatic perennial grass with rich burgundy foliage that can reach 5 to 6 feet in a single season. Its bold color makes a stunning focal point and pairs beautifully with flowering plants and green foliage.
Super Blue Liriope
One of the hardest-working plants you can put in a landscape. This long-lived, clumping evergreen is about as bulletproof as they come, thriving in both sun and shade with very little maintenance.
